Joanne Hvala

Joanne Hvala heads the communications team at Columbia Engineering, and in that role provides strategic guidance and content oversight for Columbia Engineering’s integrated marketing communications and branding initiatives.

Prior to joining Columbia University in April 2016, she served as Associate Dean of Marketing and External Relations at New York University’s Stern School of Business, where she was responsible for its Public Affairs and Events office.

Before moving into higher education, Hvala held senior positions in corporate communications and investor relations at technology companies, including General Electric, Loral Corporation, Lockheed Martin, and Sony Corporation.

A graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, with a BA in English, she earned an MBA in marketing from Baruch College, City University of New York. She has served on the Baruch College Fund board since 2007.
